Informance, with OMAC members Boeing, NIST, and OKUMA to Demonstrate "Top Floor to Shop Floor Synchronization" at the IMTS Show

REDWOOD SHORES, CA — AUGUST 8, 2005 — Informance will be present at the International Manufacturing Technology (IMTS) Show held this year in the McCormick Place in Chicago from September 6-13, and will demonstrate its vision of the "Top Floor to Shop Floor Synchronization."

The demonstration, a joint collaboration by OMAC members Informance, Boeing, Okuma and NIST, will feature a seamless integration between a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine and an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system using the Informance system. While a part is machined, the Okuma CNC is monitored by the Informance system which collects real-time part accounting information that it then shares with an ERP inventory and procurement subsystems. Based on finished products, on-hand raw material levels, and scrap information, Informance will dynamically update ERP inventory positions and trigger purchase orders for replenishing raw materials. This ¿Closed-Loopî feedback is achieved by a standard-based Web-Services connection between the CNC tooling center and the ERP system over standard corporate TCP/IP-based network.

"Closed-loop ERP, where ERP planning systems react to events on production lines in real-time, can significantly improve decision-making and have tremendous positive impact on customer service levels, on time delivery and inventory levels," says Sunil Singh, CEO of Informance International. IMTS 2006 will be held at the McCormick Place complex in Chicago, Illinois and will be the 26th edition of the largest manufacturing and technology show in North America. IMTS is held every even-numbered year in Chicago and attracts over 85,000 buyers and sellers from 80 countries. The Closed-Loop ERP demonstration will be held inBooth A-8200 (OKUMA). We have always heard people talk of 'Top Floor to Shop Floor' synchronization, but there are very few real applications that can demonstrate this capability. I think this work, done with our OMAC partners Okuma and Boeing, and helped by NIST, is a big leap forward in turning this vision into reality."
